The incident happened at RE Hospital, which is situated in the town's Ghungoor neighborhood. It has caused a great deal of controversy and cries for responsibility.
Atiquar Rahman, the victim, came to the hospital to get treatment for an illness in his genital area. He lived in the Jiribam district of neighboring Manipur. Rahman filed a complaint with the Ghungoor Police Station, stating that Dr. Eden Sinha, a laparoscopic surgeon from Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), was caring for him when he was admitted to RE Hospital a few days ago.
According to reports, Dr. Sinha suggested a biopsy as part of the course of treatment to look at the illness in more detail. Rahman claims that he was brought to the operating room for the treatment without being told or asked for permission to undergo any significant surgery.
When Rahman later learned that his entire genital organ had been surgically removed, he was horrified. Because of the dressing, I didn't realize what had happened right away. However, as it was taken off, I realized what had happened to me," Rahman told the police.
With no other choice, Rahman went to the police and formally reported Dr. Eden Sinha for allegedly executing a life-altering operation without getting informed consent. An investigation has been started after the complaint was filed at the Ghungoor Police Station.
Civil society representatives have responded strongly to the shocking charges and are now calling for an exhaustive and unbiased investigation. Concerns over the case's ethical transgressions and possible criminal responsibility have also been voiced by medical professionals.
