KOKRAJHAR: A one-day awareness program titled "Reclaiming the Climate for a Resilient and Sustainable Future" under the Green Bodoland Mission (GBM) of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) government was held on Thursday at Bimalanagar Thongsi, near Nagrijuli in Assam's Tamulpur district.
The event emphasized creating a green, smart, and peaceful Bodoland, with more than 1.2 lakh saplings planted under the GBM plantation drive on community lands, forest areas, and village playgrounds across the region.
The program saw participation from hundreds of villagers who shared their perspectives on the mission. A presentation on waste management highlighted the importance of citizen awareness and the necessity of sustainable practices.
BTR Executive Member Dharma Narayan Das praised the GBM's afforestation initiatives and reaffirmed the government’s commitment under the leadership of Pramod Boro to societal welfare and development. Das encouraged the community to avoid plastic use to promote environmental sustainability.
Mission Director Manaranjan Das shared that ten villages have been adopted under GBM, with ongoing awareness programs involving youth clubs, NGOs, and community groups. The mission aims to foster tree plantation, environmental stewardship, and a plastic-free lifestyle for better human well-being.
Launched in July, the GBM has engaged 258 youth clubs and declared Bimalanagar village an adopted village with strategies in place for its development. Distinguished attendees included UPPL Media Secretary Hantigiri Narzary, SEED Adviser Ranjan Kumar Baruah, and environmental experts, underscoring the mission’s collective vision for a sustainable Bodoland.
