JAMUGURIHAT: The members of the Axom Andolon Sartirtha Mancha spoke against the actions of the Axom Gana Parisad spokesperson Partha Pratim Bora through a press meet.

The Axom Andolon Satirtha Mancha alleged that Partha Pratim Bora had given a social media post. In this post, he attempted to twist the facts of the Assam Movement and twist the facts regarding the All Assam Students Union (AASU). They also mentioned that the post has created sensations on social media.

They also mentioned that Partha Pratim Bora had falsely mentioned that his late father Prassana Bora was once the president as well as general secretary of the Darrang district unit of the students union. He had also lied about being the advisor of the organisation. The Axom Andolan Satirtha Mancha also alleged that Partha Pratim Bora had tried to twist the facts with lies during the meet.

The spokesperson of AGP (Assam Gana Parishad), Partha Pratim Bora, on Wednesday stated that his deceased father Prasanna Bora was the former secretary, president and advisor of undivided Darrang district AASU. He had termed his father as an Assamese nationalist through his Facebook post. Reacting to the remark made by Partha Pratim Bora, All Jamuguri AASU issued a press release terming his remark as unfortunate. Partha Pratim Bora does not know the glorious history of the student body, the press release stated. The press release further clarified that Prasanna Bora was by no means associated with AASU nor did he hold any portfolio. On the other hand, the Sanmilita Yuva Mancha and Assam Andolan Satirtha Mancha also condemned Bora’s remarks on AASU.

Meanwhile, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) staged a 10-hour hunger strike on Tuesday in all district headquarters of the State against the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities and the State Government’s ‘failure’ to check price rise and inflation. In Guwahati too, AASU activists staged a hunger strike from 6 am to 4 pm while shouting slogans against the government. AASU in-charge president Utpal Sarma and general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah said, “Prices of commodities that are required for daily use, vegetables and LPG cylinders have gone through the roof. To make matters worse for common people, prices of medicines have also increased and electricity tariff has also been hiked. Unfortunately, the State Government has proved a complete failure in putting a check on price rise. No steps have been taken to provide some respite to people from the sky-rocketing prices of essential items.”
