Assam: Bangla Sahitya Sabha's Three-Day Delegate Meet Begins in Silchar

SILCHAR: The three day delegate meet of Bangla Sahitya Sabha, Asom, began here in Silchar with a message to build up a bridge between the Barak and Brahmaputra valleys. Minister Krishnendu Paul who inaugurated the function at Gandhibag, said that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had been working relentlessly to bring all the communities of Assam in a common platform “ It is a welcome move by the Bangla Sahitya Sabha to unite all the linguistic communities in its platform which will usher in a new era for the entire state,” Paul hoped. The Sabha felicitated former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha with the ‘Asom Bandhab’ award. Kanad Purkayastha, the son of the veteran BJP leader, received the award on behalf of his father.

Debojit Borah, Secretary of Axom Sahitya Sabha, also spoke on the occasion. He too stressed on bridging the gap between the two valleys. Prashanta Chakrabarty, General Secretary of the Bangla Sahitya Sabha, elaborated the aims and objectives of the organisation. He urged the Axom Sahitya Sabha to extend a hand of cooperation and fraternity by setting up exemplary steps like memorial lectures on famed personalities like Rajmohan Nath. Former Hojai MLA as well as the chairman of the Linguistic Minority Board Siladitya Deb also spoke at the inaugural programme.
