Assam: Barpeta Rising Club’s ‘Baate Baate Holi’ completes 25 years

Barpeta: In connection with famous Doul Festival of Barpeta, “ Rising Club” Barpeta also has been continuing “Holigeet Competition” (Baate Baate Holi) during last 25 years. Today on this day of “Gandhajatra” the competition was formally inaugurated by Dr Babul Chandra Das, Burha Xatriya, Barpeta Xatra in front of “Dalan”, of Barpeta Xatra and later on the procession is taken out through the main roads of the town with the holigeets of the competitors.

In his address Dr Babul Chandra Das stated that such type of programmes of Club Rising will surely enlighten the importance of Holigeets among the mass people. Burha Xatriya also praised Club Rising for their effort to spread the holi festival and songs to the people. In this programme noted Singer Marmita Mitra, Siddharth Sarma, actor Beharbari out post serial, Richa Chetry were also present. They were presented a replica of “Guru Aashan” in the same stage at Barpeta press club. The procession of this “Holigeet” competition was ended at Barpeta press club premises with the “Holigeet” performance by the Burha Xatriya of Barpeta Xatra Dr Babul Ch Das. In this holigeet competition all total 30 group had taken part, among those from the male group “Kaliya Thakur group” secured 1st position, followed by the Burhagosain group and Daksharam Das group secured the 3rd position.  From the female group Usha Das group secured 1st position followed by Bidismita Das group and Burhagosain group who secured the 3rd prize. From male Rudradev Choudhury of Kaliya Thakur got best “Pathak” (Best singer) and best “Pathakani” (best singer) was given to Bidismita Das.  The title of “Dholbadak” was given to Biswajit Das and “Taalbadak” was given to Rakesh Das.
