JAMUGURIHAT: A three-day silver jubilee celebration of Naduar Press Club which began on December 2 concluded on Sunday. DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta inaugurated the open session. Padma Shri Yase Dorji Thangshi graced the open session as chief guest. Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika was conferred with 'Bharali Konwar' title for his outstanding contributions towards socio-political and socio-cultural fields. Eminent physician Dr. Ilias Ali released 'Bharali Konwar', an anthology compiled on the life and works on Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika. The open session was addressed by eminent journalist Prakash Mahanta as an appointed speaker.

The first day programme began with inauguration of competitions by Dulu Gogoi, an eminent artiste on December 2. A series of competitions including drawing, news reading and news writing were organised in Abhijatri Kala Kendra.

A total of 200 students from various educational institutions of the greater Jamugurihat area participated in the event. The second day programme began with hoisting of flags in the playground of Inspection Bunglow. A total of 25 flags were hoisted as a mark of celebration of 25 years of inception of the press club.

The main flag of Naduar Press Club was hoisted by Phanindra Barua, president of Naduar Press Club while representatives of various organisations and institutions hoisted other 24 flags. It was followed by smriti tarpan offered by Bhaba Goswami, president of Barechahar Bhaona Committee. A get together was held with Anuwar Ahmed, advisory of Naduar Press Club in the chair which was inaugurated by Nalini Ranjan Bhuyan, former member of Naduar Press Club.

The get together was addressed by Hemanta Saikia, founder vice president of Naduar Press Club, Nitumani Bora, Dipankar Bora, Sailen Borkataky, Jyoti Bhattacharya along with others. In between the programme, hawkers of the greater Jamugurihat area were felicitated in the meeting. A prize distribution ceremony was held with Phanindra Barua in the chair. Journalist Anjan Baskota was felicitated by the press club for his distinguishing contribution in the field of journalism.
