SILCHAR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) officially formed the Sribhumi Zila Parishad on Saturday, with Anil Tripathi elected as chairman and Sathi Roy Kuri as vice-chairman. The oath-taking ceremony for all 16 elected Zila Parishad members was held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

In the election for the chairman post, the BJP’s Anil Tripathi secured a decisive victory over Congress candidate Mumtaz Begum, winning by a clear margin of 11–5. The BJP held a majority in the 16-member council, with 11 Zila Parishad Committee (ZPC) members, while Congress had 5. Tripathi represents the Chandkhira ZP under the Patharkandi constituency, and Sathi Roy Kuri represents Maijgram ZP in North Karimganj.

The event was attended by several prominent BJP leaders, including Minister Krishnendu Paul, State BJP vice president Bijoy Malakar, former Rajya Sabha MP Mission Ranjan Das, and District BJP president Sanjib Banik.
