GUWAHATI: Another government employee was caught red-handed for accepting bribe money in Assam's Dhubri district on Saturday.

The arrested government official was identified as Mahabub Mollah, a senior assistant in Bilasipara Revenue Circle Office in Dhubri district.

A team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption trapped and arrested Mollah while taking money from the complainant.

Sources in the agency said the senior assistant was caught red- handed while accepting demanded money for processing the land mutation work of the complainant.

Taking to Twitter, ADGP (Law & Order) GP Singh tweeted, "Sri Mahabub Mollah Senior Assistant o/o Circle officer Bilasipara District Dhubri has been trapped and arrested red handed today by team of @DIR_VAC_ASSAM while accepting demanded money for processing the land mutation work of the complainant."

Earlier today, a drug inspector, identified as Jahnabi Kalita, was trapped and caught red handed while accepting bribe money by another team in Jorhat.

Kalita had allegedly demanded money for issuing a License to the complainant for starting a Pharmacy.

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption has been very busy lately and many government officials have been arrested on charges of corruption.

Since it came to power, the BJP is Assam- starting from the time of former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal- has been shouting itself hoarse about reining in corruption but a few bad apples are spoiling the narrative.

After Himanta Biswa Sarma assumed office, there has been crackdown on corrupt government officials and people are also coming forward to complain about demands for money in lieu of favours. This has resulted in many such officials being apprehended.
