DIBRUGARH: Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary inspected the proposed site for the upcoming Legislative Assembly building and MLA quarters at Khanikar on Wednesday, May 7. He also held discussions with officials from relevant departments regarding the planning of an 800-seat auditorium and a new Circuit House, both part of future development proposals in the city.

During the visit, senior district officials and heads of key departments accompanied Daimary, including Duliajan MLA Terash Gowalla, Dibrugarh District Commissioner Bikram Kairi (IAS), SP V.V. Rakesh Reddy, and Additional District Commissioner Dr. Monika Borah.

Circle Officer Dev Narayan Hazarika, Assistant Commissioner Juri Doley, and senior representatives from the Sonowal Kachari and Matak Autonomous Councils were also present.

As discussions focused on land use, utilities, and infrastructure readiness, officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. (APDCL), the Public Health Engineering Department, and the District Veterinary Department also took part in the visit.

Notably, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier announced that Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar would lay the foundation stones for the Assembly complex and associated facilities during his scheduled visit to Assam in September. The proposed Assembly complex and other infrastructure projects are poised to bolster Dibrugarh’s status as Assam’s second capital.
