Assam: Biswanath Municipality Takes Action Against Cattle on the Roads

BISWANATH: Cattle roaming around on the roads is a big problem across the country and the Biswanath region of the state is no exception. In an attempt to prevent the nuisance and risk caused by these animals roaming freely on motorways, the Biswanath Chariali Municipal has decided to take action against such animals.

The urban local body has decided to confiscate any cattle found on the roads in the region falling under its jurisdiction and send them to Goshalas or cattle pens in the region. The administrative body already confiscated over 50 cattle from the streets and will send them to the designated locations.

It is important to note that thousands and thousands of cattle roam freely on the streets of the country as their owners lack ample space need to keep them and let them move around. In the lack of space, the owners let the cattle move around freely. Many people also use this trick to avoid the feeding cost for their livestock.

Cattle moving around on the roads or sleeping there pose a massive risk for motorists causing a large number of traffic accidents. Several people have lost their lives, while many more have been injured by such incdents. In addition to humans, hundreds of cattle also perish every year in these incidents. Trucks and sometimes even small vehicles run them over or hit them causing minor to life-threatening injuries. Cattle attacking pedestrians is another key problem faced on the streets because of freely roaming animals.

Another problem that arises from such unattended cattle is the massive rise in the incidents of illegal trading of cattle in different parts of the state. Miscreants can easily lift such cattle without no one noticing them while committing the crime and then they sell these animals in areas where they are in very high demand, especially for the purpose of consumption.

A large section of the local population has lauded this decision of the local urban body to ensure the safety of both humans and animals.
