BISWANATH CHARIALI: In a prompt and well-coordinated operation, Biswanath Police successfully foiled an attempt at cattle theft in the early hours of the morning on Sunday. Acting on credible information regarding the movement of suspected cattle lifters in the district, a joint team comprising the Officers-in-Charge of Sootea and Biswanath Police Stations and other police personnel launched an operation.
A suspected vehicle, a Renault Triber bearing registration number AS01FR7844, was intercepted. Upon being signaled to stop, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, leading to a brief hot pursuit. Realizing escape was not feasible, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee on foot into a nearby paddy field. One individual was nabbed after a chase, while the other managed to escape under the cover of darkness and rainfall.
The apprehended accused was identified as Ayub Ali (30 years), S/o Late Md Ali of Sonaibali village under Samaguri PS in Nagaon district. Upon search of the vehicle, a cow was found tied in the back seat, indicating clear involvement in cattle lifting activities.
Further legal action is being taken, and efforts are underway to catch the absconding accused and trace the broader network involved in cattle theft.
