GUWAHATI: The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its list of candidates for the upcoming Panchayat Elections. Following a key meeting held on Wednesday evening, the BJP declared that it will field a total of 318 candidates for 396 district committee seats. Out of these, 172 candidates are women, reflecting the party's focus on encouraging women's participation in grassroots politics.
The BJP's ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), is set to announce its list of candidates for the remaining 73 district committee seats today. The BJP has left these seats for the AGP as part of the recently agreed-upon seat-sharing arrangement between the two parties.
Meanwhile, the Rabha Hasong United Front has also joined the race under the banner of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and will field candidates for the elections.
As the Panchayat poll schedule draws closer, BJP leaders in Dhubri plan to intensify outreach efforts and connect with community leaders, women’s groups, farmers, and youth organizations.
BJP District President Ranjit Kumar Ray stated that the party would keep transparency at the forefront and ensure that their representatives remain accountable to every household they serve. The BJP now looks set to make a determined push to expand its rural footprint and consolidate support in one of Assam’s politically active districts.
