GUWAHATI: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Guwahati, Assam, on Monday morning.

The deceased, Kamal Dey, was discovered by locals in the Maligaon area of Guwahati, Assam. Kamal Dey served as the president of the BJP's Jalukbari Mandal.

He was found dead near a main road. Reports indicate that Dey left for home on Sunday evening but never reached his destination.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, exploring multiple angles. Initially, the incident appeared to be an accident, but the police have not ruled out the possibility of murder.

A motorcycle was found near the scene, but it did not belong to Dey, raising further speculation about the circumstances of his death. The police are now examining Dey's call records and movements to reconstruct the events leading to his death.

Although the exact cause of death is still unknown, the police are investigating all potential angles to uncover the truth.

Meanwhile, the previous month, two BJP leaders from Dhing, Assam, narrowly escaped an abduction and assault attempt by a gang of five miscreants. The leaders' refusal to pay an extortion demand of Rs 4 lakh, reportedly linked to a government scheme, allegedly sparked the incident.

Ajit Das, the Nagaon District Secretary of the BJP Scheduled Caste Youth Morcha, and Dibya Jyoti Hazarika, the Vice President of the same unit, were forcibly transported from Dhing to Haidubi in Batadrava. They endured brutal beatings and threats of gunfire there. Ajit Das managed to escape during the ordeal, saving himself from further harm.
