DHING: Two BJP leaders from Dhing, Assam, narrowly escaped an abduction and assault attempt by a gang of five miscreants. The leaders' refusal to pay an extortion demand of Rs 4 lakh, reportedly linked to a government scheme, allegedly sparked the incident.

Ajit Das, the Nagaon District Secretary of the BJP Scheduled Caste Youth Morcha, and Dibya Jyoti Hazarika, the Vice President of the same unit, were forcibly transported from Dhing to Haidubi in Batadrava. They endured brutal beatings and threats of gunfire there. Ajit Das managed to escape during the ordeal, saving himself from further harm.

Following the attack, both leaders lodged a formal complaint at the Dhing Police Station. They identified two of the miscreants as Lakheswar Nath and Mousam Nath.

The leaders have appealed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for enhanced security measures., expressing grave concern over their safety.

In a similar incident earlier this year in April, unknown miscreants reportedly abducted a 30-year-old man from Langathel under Khongjom police station, Thoubal district. However, the man luckily escaped from the clutches of his abductors before anything unwanted happened.

The victim has been identified as Puyam Rajkanta, son of Puyam Ramsurat of Langathel Maya i Leikai.

Locals and Meira Paibi members organized a sit-in protest at the village on Friday denouncing the incident and demanding clarification from the people or groups behind the abduction.
