Assam: Boxer Jamuna Boro Appointed As Excise Inspector

Guwahati: Assam's boxer Jamuna Boro, who represents India at an international level, has been appointed as an excise inspector by the Assam state government. 

The news was shared by the boxer herself on her official Twitter handle. The tweet read, "I am really honoured to be appointed by our hon'able Chief Minister @himantabiswa Sir as an excise inspector. I promise to serve in the position to the best of my abilities."

Jamuna Boro had secured a  bronze medal at the 2019 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships held in Ulan-Ude, Russia She also brought home a gold medal at the 2nd India Open International Boxing Tournament held in Guwahati. In addition, she also won a gold medal at the 23rd President's Cup 2019 Boxing International Open Tournament held in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.

Previously, Lovlina Borgohain was awarded the post of DSP, within the Assam Police's honorary designation. Lovlina was the lone athlete from Assam to participate at Tokyo Olympics and won a bronze medal in the Welterweight category. It was the first occasion when an athlete from Assam was successful to win a medal in Olympics.

Earlier, Assam's top sprinter Hima Das, who brought international fame for India and that to Assam, had been appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police and this had attracted a lot of debates on social media.
