GUWAHATI: The Brahmaputra River Rafting Expedition has reached Dhemaji, Assam which was led by Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal. The journey started on January 14, 2025, from Gelling in Arunachal Pradesh and aims to cover 916 kilometers of the Brahmaputra River in India.
Col. Jamwal, an iconic mountaineer and the Director of the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), Dirang, is leading the mission. A three-time Everest summiteer with over 70 mountaineering expeditions to his credit, Col. Jamwal is also a proud recipient of the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award.
The team includes 22 members, with 14 experts from NIMAS, experienced adventurers like Captain Kavitha Basu Palli, a doctor, and Junior Commissioned Officer Ravi Devdkar. Additionally, there are two skilled safety kayakers and several jawans contributing to the mission's success.
Having successfully covered 400 kilometers of the Brahmaputra’s demanding waters, the team has demonstrated remarkable resilience and unwavering determination, especially while tackling the perilous rapids of the Siang stretch.
Earlier in the journey, six participants from Arunachal Pradesh joined the team between Upper Siang and Pasighat, representing the essence of local adventure. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances forced them to discontinue their journey beyond Pasighat.
The expedition celebrates India’s spirit of adventure, aiming to inspire young explorers and highlight the natural beauty and challenges of the northeastern region.
