KOKRAJHAR: With the entire state and the nation reeling under heightened temperatures and erratic monsoon patterns owing to climate change, the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) has also been severely hit by drought like conditions this year. Four districts including Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Tamulpur are facing acute drought, while Udalguri district is experiencing moderate drought, posing a serious threat to rice production and the food security of thousands of farming families in the region.
In response to this crisis, BTC Chief Pramod Boro, has launched a comprehensive Drought Relief Programme under the vision “Vibrant BTR, Vibrant Agriculture – From Mission to Action”. The initiative is designed to provide immediate relief to affected farmers and establish a long-term mechanism to mitigate the impact of such climatic adversities in the future.
As part of this programme, 5% of BTR’s Agriculture Budget would be earmarked exclusively for disaster management, focusing on emergencies like drought, floods, locust attacks and pest infestations. This dedicated fund will ensure swift financial support to farmers during crises.
