Guwahati: The state cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod to create a committee for finalisation of State Emblem for better and significant representation of the state visually.

The committee will be headed by the Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu and Health Minister Keshab Mahanta.

Presently, the Assam government uses the national emblem of India with the words "Axom Sorkar" above and "Government of Assam" below.

Apart from these, the cabinet also given its nod to sanction Rs 985 crore to upgrade 114 road-cum-embarkments and construction of 6 rural bridges in Bajali, Baksa, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Charaideo, Darrang, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara-Mankachar and Tinsukia districts.

The cabinet also approved Rs 450 crore for the construction of new Medical College and hospital in Tamulpur district.

In the meeting it was also decided to form a high level task force to oversee the proper implementation of PM Gati Shakti.
