Assam: Cachar police seized Yaba tablets worth Rs 7 crore, drug peddler arrested

Silchar: The Cachar police had arrested a Manipur-based drug peddler from Jirighat and recovered a huge quantity of Yaba tablets from him. Further, the district police raided a house reportedly used as a storeroom for drugs in Jirighat and seized 27 grams of heroin.

The Cachar SP Numol Mahatta said, based on a credible intelligence, a team of the Cachar police on Saturday night launched an operation against the illegal transportation of narcotics substances at Haokip Punji in Jirighat.

Police apprehended one person, namely Chungkam Lenthang (44), a resident of Muktakkhal Village in Manipur’s  Tamenglon district. A consignment of 24000 Yaba tablets concealed in a plastic bag was recovered from him. The price of the narcotic substance in the black market is about 7.20, Mahatta claimed.

The SP further informed that they had received a specific input from a reliable source regarding NDPS storing in a house at Kharjong bosti in Jirighat, owned by one Lienkhosat Kuki. Accordingly search was conducted in the house and recovered 27gm of suspected heroin. Lienkhosat Kuki was apprehended. The price of the narcotics substance in the black market is about Rs. 13.5 lakh.
