KOKRAJHAR:  Chief of BTC Pramod Boro ceremonially inaugurated the newly built auditorium hall with seating capacity of 1200 audiences at Bodoland University (BU) in the presence of EM Ranjit Basumatary, Vice-Chancellor of BU Prof BL Ahuja, Registrar Dr Subung Basumatary, BTC Secretary Amarjyoti Barman, and distinguished guests. The auditorium hall, a long cherished demand, has been named after Jwhwlao Nileswar Brahma, folk cultural legend of the Bodos.

Registrar of BU Dr Subung Basumatary gave the welcome address. In his speech, Basumatary said that it was a historic moment in the history of BU as it has been a long cherished demand of the university. He said that the construction got started in 2017 and has been completed with an additional amount of Rs 5 crore from the Government of BTR at the initiative of CEM Pramod Boro who took keen interest for its completion. He thanked the Government of BTR for taking the bold initiative to make the long cherished demand come true.

Vice-Chancellor of BU Prof BL Ahuja in his speech said that the BU lacked an auditorium hall even to host a programme of 250-seating capacity but after construction of this big auditorium hall with all modern amenities, will cater to the need of the university. He also said that national and international level seminars were held on a regular basis and this auditorium hall will help in organizing all kinds of programmes as it is also an art and cultural centre. No university in the state has such a big auditorium hall with all amenities, he also said, adding that two more auditorium halls with 250 seating capacities for specific discussion and interaction programmes are also required.

Pramod Boro said that he used to oversee the crisis of BU and physically visited the university campus without informing anyone many times. “When I was an activist of the ABSU, there was only a small auditorium hall with about 150 seating capacity to host important programmes and questioned in his mind why the government failed to bring up basic needful infrastructures,” he said, adding that he took keen interest for the infrastructure boost of the BU after he became the CEM of the BTC. He said that for smooth sailing of the council and sustainable development, he called up the departmental and institutional heads to understand the basic problems, shortcomings and started to undertake the comprehensive vision.

Boro said that to give exposure to BU, a knowledge festival was organized at BU and several guests from different parts of the world attended and the basic infrastructure of the BU was completed. He also said that he will look after the proposal of the VC of BU to build two more auditorium halls and an indoor stadium.

The programme was also attended by EM Ranjit Basumatary, Nominated Member Madhav Chandra Chetri, CIT Director A Devnath, BTC Secretary of Education Amarjyoti Barman, Director of Education, BTC Jagadish Prasad Brahma, Principal of Kokrajhar Government College Dr Dimacha Dwibrang Mashahary, Principal of Kokrajhar Science College Dr R.N.
