TINSUKIA: A total of 12,770 students studying in Class IX received bicycles under the Chief Minister’s Special Scheme in a programme held at Janmukh Play Ground Borguri in the outskirts of Tinsukia on Friday.

Lakhimpur Lok Sabha MP Pradan Baruah, who was present as the chief guest at the event, distributed bicycles among the students of 127 government and provincialized secondary schools, government model schools and tea plantation model schools of Tinsukia district.

Appreciating Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s efforts to bring radical changes in the education system, MP Baruah advised the students to always listen to their teachers and parents and urged the teachers to make efforts for the comprehensive development of the students of the school. District Commissioner Swapneel Paul in his welcome address said that the Chief Minister’s Special Scheme initiated by the Education Department of the Government of Assam with the main objective of providing these bicycles to the students is to encourage the students enrolled in government and provincialized secondary schools and also to facilitate students in remote and inaccessible areas to arrive at school on time, besides ensuring regular attendance at school and to reduce dropout.

MANGALDAI: “Education is the backbone of a nation. Education is not only to earn a mere degree but to acquire knowledge based on human values and ethics. Students must know the use and misuse of mobile phones before possessing them and it is the duty of the parents and guardians to always remain vigilant over the use of mobile phones by their wards since at this crucial young age, there is every possibility of a student to get deviated from his actual path due to lack of knowledge to judge between good or bad,” said Mangaldai Parliamentarian Dilip Saikia while addressing a mammoth gathering of about 15,000 enthusiastic students at Mangaldai College playground on Friday. He also appealed to the students to study the life and works of former President of India APJ Kalam and Swami Vivekananda so that they can develop themselves as human resource and contribute towards building a stronger Assam and a stronger India in the future.

The function was organized by the Darrang district administration for the ceremonial distribution of bicycles to 6,419 class IX students of the district. Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, while taking part in the function as the chief guest, marked the ceremonial beginning of the distribution of bicycles.
