TINSUKIA: The Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) has expressed resentment over the omission of tea tribes among the 33 communities against which the government has contemplated to prepare census data in every district of the State.

Raju Sahu, vice-president of ACMS and also former Chabua MLA, in a press release stated that the government notification vide no TAD BC/633/2021 of June 9 through WPT&BC omitted tea tribe Adivasi community from the purview of census exercise. He felt surprised that despite the tea community being an integral part of the Assamese community and recognized as major community, the deletion of the community was unwarranted and unfortunate even as a good number of legislators represented the community in the present government.

For all-round development of the community, the government should have the population data of the community, Raju stated, urging the Chief Minister to incorporate the tea tribe community in the list and to provide future security to this marginalized and oppressed community.
