Assam: Chief Minister Himanta Flags Off Amrit Kalash Yatra from Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the Amrit Kalash Yatra from Guwahati as part of the "Meri Maati Mera Desh" (My Soil, My Country) initiative. The ceremony took place at the Guwahati Railway Station in the early hours of Friday.

The event marked the departure of the Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express carrying 270 urns filled with soil, symbolizing the unity of Assam and its villages. The soil had been collected from households across the state and was mixed together before being placed in the urns in Guwahati.

The Amrit Kalash Yatra, which commenced on September 20, is a poignant initiative to commemorate the sacrifices of India's freedom fighters. The urns will arrive in New Delhi on Saturday, where they will be used to pay tribute to the martyrs who played a pivotal role in the struggle for India's independence. The purpose of this yatra is to remember these heroes and follow the path they have shown.

Chief Minister Sarma, in initiating this journey, highlights the significance of preserving the spirit of patriotism and honoring those who made enormous sacrifices for the nation's freedom.

It is worth mentioning that a total of 540 urns, each filled with sacred soil, were safeguarded at the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. Out of these, 270 urns embarked on their journey to Delhi today, while an equivalent number will soon be transported to Gohpur, Assam, for a significant purpose – the laying of the foundation stone for the state's forthcoming largest university.

The ongoing Amrit Kalash Yatra is a pivotal part of the "Meri Maati Mera Desh" (My Soil, My Country) program, coinciding with the celebrations of Amrit Mohotsav.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously urged the citizens of each state to partake in the Amrit Kalash Yatra. The collected soil will be instrumental in establishing the Amrit Udyan, symbolizing unity and progress in Assam.
