 Inspects ongoing excavation, conservation, infrastructure development works at historic Maidams

SONARI: Assam Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua on Sunday during his visit to Charaideo district, paid a visit to the historic maidams under the Directorate of Archaeology.

During his visit, the Chief Secretary inspected the ongoing excavation, conservation, infrastructure development works in and around the historic site. He also took stock of the various measures taken towards conservation of the maidams and their beautification. He also offered several valuable suggestions in these regards.

Accompanied by Charaideo Deputy Commissioner Paul Barua and Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Singh, the Chief Secretary later visited the historic Lankuri Doul and the historic bungalow and Phuleswari Konwari's Maidam situated at the Charaideo Purbat Tea Estate in the distric, stated a press release.

During his visit, the Chief Secretary was also accompanied by SDO (Sadar) Pranjal Pratim Konwar; Deputy Director, Directorate of the Archaeology Nabajit Deori, Technical Officer Chabina Hassan, Senior conservation officer Kangkon Jyoti Saikia, local tarpan committee's secretary Atul Rajknowar and social worker Mridul Konwar. Later, the Chief Secretary arrived at the Deputy Commissioner's office and chaired a review meeting on the functioning of APDCL at Sivasagar and Charaideo districts under Sivasagar Electrical Circle. During the course of the meeting which was also attended by the Deputy Commissioner Paul Barua and SP Sudhakar Singh, the Chief Secretary discussed at length on issues like electricity bill collection, pending amount of revenue and the steps taken by APDCL in these matters. Officials of APDCL also gave a power-point presentation before the Chief Secretary at the meeting. During the interaction, the Chief Secretary directed the APDCL officials to disconnect power services to all defaulting consumers who have not cleared their dues since 2020 and before. He also asked the officials to emphasize on maximum revenue collection in a proactive and systematic manner. He also advocated installation of smart metres at all government offices and residences. He further asked the officials to work with utmost integrity and dedication for the overall development of the department.
