GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota conducted a review meeting on Tuesday to evaluate the security measures and overall preparations for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations across the state.

The meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, was attended by Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh, senior officials, and district administrators. It primarily focused on security arrangements for the central event at Khanapara, Guwahati.

The senior official shared updates about the review on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing the need for a seamless and secure Republic Day celebration.

"Convened a meeting with all stakeholders, in the presence of @DGPAssamPolice Shri @gpsinghips to review all security protocols and arrangements for the same," Kota wrote in his X post.

Meanwhile, Assam had witnessed a notable improvement in data-based parameters, including a decline in crime rate and a rise in charge-sheet and conviction percentages until November this year. This also resulted in a reduction in the load of cases per Investigation Officer (IO), from almost 70 cases per IO to less than 7 cases per IO in three years, from May 2021 to November 2024.

DGP GP Singh revealed this, following the State Crime Review for December 2024 convened at Assam Police Headquarters on Monday.

According to the facts and figures supplied by the DGP, the number of crimes per lakh population also saw a significant dip, with 385.8 in 2019 to 139.2 in 2024, up to November.
