Guwahati: In an effort to make all the work of the transport system simpler, the Assam government has undertaken a number of new decisions which is aimed at enabling the general public to carry out all the necessary work from home without having to go to the Transport Office.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared details in this regard on June 1.

The CM, on June 1, said that dealers were not allowed to issue vehicle registration certificates in the past. However, he went on to say that only dealers can sign up for DTO with immediate effect and informed that vehicle renewal and any driving license related work can be done online.

According to the newly revised rules, those who have purchased a new car will be able to issue their registration certificate (RC) without the signature of the District Transport officer and there will be the signature of the dealer authority from where the vehicle has been purchased from June 1.

Also, the registration will be done by the dealer from whom the new vehicle will be purchased. Last but not the least, any license related information can be corrected online from June 1.

Meanwhile, Digilocker documents such as the PAN card, driving licence, and vehicle registration certificate can be easily accessed via MyGov Helpdesk on WhatsApp, MyGov announced on May 23.

Citizens will now be able to create and authenticate their own Digilocker account on WhatsApp and download documents such as PAN card; driving licence; CBSE Class X passing certificate; vehicle registration certificate (RC); insurance policy - two-wheeler; Class X and Class XII mark sheets; and insurance policy document (life and non-life available on Digilocker), MyGov said in a statement.

According to MyGov, the move will make "the government services accessible, inclusive, transparent and simple".
