Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the holistic development of Barak Valley, announcing that all four promised piped water supply schemes in the region are now under construction.

Taking to microblogging platform X, the Chief Minister shared that the recently approved Badarpur Water Supply Scheme, with a project cost of ₹49.58 crore, is set to provide clean and reliable drinking water to residents of the town.

“All 4 piped water supply schemes are now under construction, as promised. The newly approved Badarpur project will ensure 24x7 drinking water supply for the town,” CM Sarma wrote.

The move is part of the government’s larger push for infrastructure development in Barak Valley, with a focus on essential services like drinking water, sanitation, and urban amenities. The piped water supply initiative aims to cover underserved areas and improve the quality of life for residents in both urban and semi-urban regions.

Officials said that once completed, the project will not only improve water access but also contribute to better public health and sanitation standards.

The announcement has been welcomed by local residents and public representatives, who see it as a long-awaited step towards equitable development across Assam’s regions.

Further updates on timelines for project completion and coverage areas are expected in the coming weeks as on-ground work progresses.
