GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has advised ministers to stay away from political remarks and political interviews in an effort to keep the focus on development and governance.
The government's commitment to socio-economic development was underlined in a directive from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), which also asked ministries to maintain their attention on ongoing projects. The order read:
"The government is vigorously pursuing an ambitious agenda of socio-economic development. The 12 Days of Development program will soon be followed by further citizen-centric interventions and initiatives. In light of these efforts, it is crucial to remain focused and avoid distractions."
The guideline cited cases in which ministers' political remarks or responses to provocations in the media caused needless controversy and took the focus away from initiatives aimed at development.
It has been noted that certain ministers engage in needless controversy by responding to political matters or making political statements when speaking with the media. Additionally, certain media outlets encourage ministers to make dramatic remarks that divert attention away from growth and governance.
CM Sarma advised ministers to refrain from responding to political provocations and to limit media interactions. In order to change Assam's socioeconomic environment and benefit its people as a whole, the statement called for a concerted effort to ensure that government policies and initiatives are implemented effectively.
