GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday met Bhutan's Agriculture and Livestock Minister Younten Phuntsho to explore how to increase cooperation between Assam and Bhutan.

The talks were focused on major areas including agriculture, livestock, trade, tourism, education, and power. The leaders were keen on deepening bilateral relations and seeking new avenues for economic and social progress between the bordering areas.

Younten Phuntsho also held talks with Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya to improve cooperation in agriculture, eco-tourism, education, and trade. The negotiations were centered on the historical relationship between the two countries and explored common ventures for sustainable development and investment.

Economic and cultural linkages were emphasized by Governor Acharya, with proposals for collaborative initiatives in eco-tourism and conservation such as the development of spiritual tourism circuits. He also appreciated Assam's commitment towards Bhutanese students by reserving medical college seats and also appreciated Bhutan's reputation in organic farming.

The Bhutanese contingent unveiled the Gelephu Mindfulness City project, in which they requested assistance from Assam, which Governor Acharya was happy to provide. The talks reaffirmed the close friendship between Assam and Bhutan, laying a foundation for future cooperation in trade, education, and sustainable development activities.
