GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made a fresh accusation against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, saying his wife Elizabeth Colburn is associated with a Pakistan-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) called LEAD Pakistan.

CM Sarma made this allegation on social media platform X, alleging that Colburn was working for Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, who is the administrator of LEAD Pakistan, which operates under the cover of climate change activities.

The Assam CM shared an old tweet of Sheikh attacking the BJP's stand on illegal migration and national security. He suggested that LEAD Pakistan has a broader strategic interest in Assam-related issues, hinting at an orchestrated agenda against state interests.

The allegations have brought in a fresh controversy in the political battle raging between CM Sarma and Congress leaders. The government led by BJP has raised voice on illegal migration and national security issues, so this recent development is now a major area of contention in state politics.

The Jorhat MP is yet to reply to the allegations and it remains to be seen as to whether evidence will be presented to back the charges levelled by the Chief Minister of Assam.
