Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in the year 2011, inaugurated a new block at the Assam Secretariat in Guwahati's Dispur. The aim of the constructed "I" block is to serve the needs of the general public. The Chief Minister's and Chief Secretary's offices will move to the Bhawan as their new operational base.

CM Sarma claims that since the office will look into the issues of the people, it has been named 'Lok Sewa Bhawan.' Chief Minister Sarma also hoped that this new office would not only enhance administrative efficiency but also facilitate the seamless execution of official procedures.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma earlier in January held a meeting with MPs and MLAs of the BJP and its allies in the state regarding the development of the state. The BJP has two allies—Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the United People’s Party Liberal (UUPL) in Assam. The ministers, MLAs, and MPs of these two parties were present at the meeting.
