Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Inaugurates IISF 2024 At IIT Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The India International Science Festival (IISF) 2024 started with grandeur on November 30, as it welcomed leading scientists, the brightest minds in academia, and young innovators to delve into the latest innovations in science and technology.

This four-day event, running until December 3, promises to be a dynamic platform to explore groundbreaking advancements in science and technology.

Union Minister of Science and Technology Jitendra Singh inaugurated the event while Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma were also present on this occasion. Speaking to the audience, they spoke of science and technology as a major pillar driving India's international aspirations.

The festival’s theme focuses on the theme, “Transforming India into an S&T-driven Global Manufacturing Hub,” emphasizing the integration of scientific research and technological innovation to bolster industrial and economic growth. 

During the opening ceremony, CM Sarma emphasized the transformative power of technology, saying, "“Technology, coupled with disciplined scientific pursuits, empowers nations to overcome resource constraints and foster sustainable growth."

The Assam CM also recognized India's great scientific legacy and its contributions to human progress, mentioning ancient centers like Takshila and luminaries like Aryabhatta.

IISF 2024 includes workshops, discussions, and cultural programs on varied topics like agriculture, healthcare, and energy. Esteemed attendees included IISF National Organizing Secretary Shiv Kumar Sharma and IIT Guwahati Director Prof. Devendra Jalihal.

IISF 2024 focuses on collaboration and innovation to inspire young scholars and place India at the forefront of global technological leadership.
