
GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has unveiled the new Integrated Terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati. The facility could take as many as 13 million passengers a year; peak hours might accommodate 4,300 domestic and 200 international travelers.
The terminal is built to expand the entrance capacity. Increased from eight gates to 14, it will have four new DigiYatra gates to help people check-in without hassle. Architecturally, the terminal is designed to reflect Assam's rich cultural heritage, showing the state flower, Foxtail Orchid (Kopou Phool), symbolizing love, fertility, and celebration.
Besides passenger amenities, the operational capability of the airport has been considerably enhanced. From 18 air traffic movements per hour, it has increased to 34 supported by a parallel taxiway, and the security check-in area has been increased from 300 to 450 square meters to improve security measures and efficiency through additional screening queues and upgraded furnishings.
An architectural wall stretching 140 meters has been created, and a 300-square-meter new area of gardens is under development that adds to the beauty and utility of the terminal. The works were completed within two months with a view to the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit so that travelers can enjoy this world-class facility.
