Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma inspects construction of medical college and cancer hospital in Demow

DEMOW: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Demow on Sunday and inspected the ongoing construction of Sivasagar Medical College and Tata Cancer Hospital situated in Demow Ekarani.

Later, talking to the media here, Dr Sarma said that the construction of the medical college stood at 20 percent completion and that of the cancer hospital was at 65 percent. He said that a proposal had also been taken to construct a new road connecting the college and hospital to the highway for the convenience of the public.

When asked about the jobs there, the Chief Minister said that the medical staff will be picked from the ADRE exam results and that the fourth grade posts would be outsourced so that the local youths can benefit. He said that at the current rate of construction, the two buildings would take two and a half years to be completed.

Regarding the Sivasagar-Demow road, Dr Sarma acknowledged that the construction was going slow and that they were trying to complete the road work within time. During his visit, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Dr Ranoj Pegu, State Education Minister as well as Guardian Minister of Sivasagar district, Sushanta Borgohain, MLA of Demow constituency, Ayush Garg, District Commissioner of Sivasagar district, co-district administration officials, and BJP party workers.
