Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Launches Online Driving License Renewal Service

GUWAHATI: In a major relief to the common people, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Thursday launched an online driving license renewal as well as duplicate license services.

Launching the services, the Chief Minister hoped that it will save the time and energy of the people who need renewed driving licenses. Earlier, the Assam government launched an online learner driving license portal. Leveraging the opportunity, over 1 lakh people applied for learner licenses. The Chief Minister stated that after getting such a huge positive response from the people, the government has decided to launch these online driving license renewals and duplicate license issuing services.

"The people who want a renewal of their driving licenses, need not go to the District Transport Officers(DTO)' offices. They will be able to apply for that sitting at their homes. These services would save their time, energy and money," he added.

The Chief Minister also said that the people can apply for their driving licenses' renewal in even another district apart from their home districts.

"The DTOs would put digital signatures. A resident of the Kamrup (M) district can also apply for a driving license in the Dima Hasao's DTO office. All the works will be done digitally. People no need to meet DTOs," he said.
