
GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 13 dedicated the first robotic surgery facility in Northeast India at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). The ceremony was held in coincidence with the Bohag Bihu celebrations, marking a new chapter of medical revolution in the state.
The new facility is set to offer low-cost, minimally invasive, and highly accurate oncological surgeries with a major enhancement in patient care. The state-of-the-art surgical equipment used in the facility is proudly 'Made in India,' showcasing the country's increasing prowess in high-end medical technology.
On his official X account, CM Sarma posted with zeal, "Assam is starting Bohag celebrations by opening North East India's first robotic surgery center at Guwahati Medical College." He also revealed plans for extending the availability of similar robotic surgery facilities in Silchar and Dibrugarh, increasing treatment services across the state.
To facilitate this technological advancement, CM Sarma announced that nursing colleges will be formed in all the cancer hospitals of Assam. The colleges will provide courses in English, Japanese, and other international languages to develop a qualified medical manpower capable of handling advanced medical technologies.
Pointing to the relevance of robotic help in healthcare, the Chief Minister had earlier posted on X that Medi JARVIS would be helping doctors with their vital tasks. This drive is a milestone towards making Assam a hub for medical expertise and innovation in healthcare.
