Assam: CM Inaugurates New Building of Puranigudam Bapuji Bhavan & Library

NAGAON: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma ceremonially inaugurated the newly-constructed building of Puranigudam Bapuji Bhawan and Library at a function today here. The building was constructed using the funds received as compensation for the land acquired for the expansion of National Highway 37.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr Sarma said that the Bapuji Bhawan and Library has been playing a vital role in promoting social, cultural, and educational activities in the region since its inception in 1948. He also announced that the state government would provide Rs 1 crore financial assistance to the institution for further construction as well as beautification work of the new auditorium and library.

The Chief Minister also said that during the last four years, his government initiated a slew of steps to conserve the historic social institutions, religious places, temples as well as other ancient heritage of the state due to which the state government could introduce the historical heritage to the new generation of the state and abroad. Referring to the development works initiated by the state government at Batadroba, the birthplace of the great saint of the state Srimanta Sankardeva, Dr Sarma said that Batadroba Than became a religious tourist spot and a vibrant spiritual tourist centre in the region. The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Minister Pijush Hazarika, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, MLAs Rupak Sarmah, Shashi Kanta Das, and Diplu Ranjan Sarma, and DC Narendra Kr Shah among others.

The new building, constructed at a cost of over Rs 2.5 crore, has modern facilities, including an auditorium, library, and reading room. The building is expected to provide a boost to the cultural and educational activities in the region. The inaugural function was mentored by Dipen Bairagi, Secretary of management committee of Bapuji Bhavan and Library while Pulin Hazarika, President of the management committee highlighted the prospects of the programme. Local MLA Jitu Goswami welcomed the guests and other dignitaries present in the programme.

During the day-long visit to the district, Dr Sarma also went to Nonoi Sariahtoli Bareganya Hazari Bhaona Mahotsav at Nonoi following which he visited Kampur and inaugurated a newly-constructed bridge over Kapili River and a flyover at the Kampur area.
