The Central Government has decided to set up the first Bamboo Industrial Park in the Northeast in Dima Hasao district for tapping the immense potential of the bamboo sector in the State.

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today laid the foundation of Bamboo Industrial Park at Manderdisa in Dima Hasao.

The project will be implemented with Rs.50 crores from DoNER Ministry.

Taking to his Twitter CM Sarma wrote, "Laid the foundation stone of Bamboo Industrial Park at Manderdisa, Dima Hasao. The Rs 50 cr project will be implemented by @MDoNER_India. Once completed, the project will usher in a new era in the economy of #NorthEast & create vast employment opportunities for local youth.

Along with CM Sarma with minister Information and Public Relations Pijush Hazarika, CEM, N.C.Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), Debolal Gorlosa, CEM, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Shri Tuliram Ronghang, Chairperson, NCHAC, Ranu Langthasa; MLA, Haflong LAC, Nandita Gorlosa; Executive Members, NCHAC, Samuel Changsan, Davojit Bathari, Ngamrothang Hmar, Member of Autonomous Council, Noah Ndaime and DC, Dima Hasao Paul Barua, SP Jayant Singh, were also present at the event.

Once completed, the project will usher in a new era in the economy of the region and create vast employment opportunities for the local youths of the region.

Earlier, the Central Government has decided to set up the first Bamboo Industrial Park in the Northeast in Dima Hasao district for tapping the immense potential of the bamboo sector in the State.

Once completed, the Park, covering an area of 75 hectares, will contribute to the overall economic development of the State apart from developing the bamboo-based industries.

The step for setting up the Park has been taken at the initiative of the DoNER Ministry following the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stated a press release.

The then Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, through a statement, said that the Bamboo Industrial Park would immensely benefit the bamboo growers of the State, which had come close on the heels of the Bamboo and Cane Policy.

He also said that works were going on for setting up the ethanol production unit at Numaligarh Refinery for a total amount of Rs 1,500 crore as a special initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Both the unit and the park would immensely benefit the bamboo growers of the State while encouraging the setting up of bamboo-based industries and attracting the youth towards the bamboo sector.
