Assam CM meets Governor Mukhi to discuss key issues plaguing State

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on May 27 called on the Governor Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhawan earlier today to discuss the multiple challenges being faced by the state administration.

Sonowal briefed the Governor about the state's fight against deadly the Covid-19 virus, with Assam firmly in its clutches. At the same time, Sonowal intimated the Governor about the state's preparedness for floods, containment of the 'African Swine Fever', as well as measures to mitigate damage due to thunderstorms.

It is pertinent to mention here that amid a sharp spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in the state, incessant rains have also caused the first spate of floods, with over 1,94,916 people in the state affected in the State across 7 districts so far and 8,941 people in having to reside in 28 relief camps across Goalpara district.

At the same time, Atul Bora, Assam Minister for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, has announced that the African Swine Flu outbreak has killed at least 15,867 pigs across Assam. He further said that there is a possibility that 50,000 pigs could eventually be affected by the disease. However, the Government has now laxed some of the restrictions which were imposed on the selling of pork meat in the state. "You need a lot of money to keep feeding a pig. Apart from the infected zones which have been identified for a radius of 1 km and the surveillance zones of 10 km, pork meat can be sold, however, it must be sold in the same district where the animals are reared", said Bora.
