TOKYO: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Japan’s Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Akiko Ikuina, to explore job opportunities for Assam’s youth in Japan.

The discussion centered on Japan’s interest in employing skilled workers from India, particularly from Assam, in its workforce. The meeting emphasized strengthening ties between India and Japan to create mutually beneficial opportunities.

In this regard, the Chief Minister posted on X and wrote, "It was a privilege to meet H.E. Ms. Akiko Ikuina, Parliamentary Vice Minister. She conveyed to me the Government of Japan’s intention to offer India, and particularly Assam’s young and skilled workforce, opportunities in Japan."

This meeting was part of CM Sarma’s three-day visit to Japan, which concluded with the “Advantage Assam” business summit. At the summit, he highlighted Assam’s economic growth, projecting the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) to reach USD 85 billion in 2024-25, with a target of USD 143 billion by 2030.

He also shared details of infrastructure development projects worth USD 12 billion and noted that Assam attracted USD 4 billion in private investments last year. The Chief Minister assured potential investors of a favorable business environment supported by robust policies and infrastructure.

CM Sarma also held discussions with business leaders, including executives from Kansai Paints and Enrission India Capital, encouraging them to invest in Assam’s growing economy and explore startup opportunities. The visit aimed to position Assam as a key destination for investment and a hub for skilled labor.
