GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the inclusion of four new ministers into his cabinet. They will be sworn in on December 7, 2024. The new appointees comprise Prasanta Phookan, Kaushik Rai, Krishnendu Paul and Rupesh Goala, all of whom are current members of the Legislative Assembly.
This cabinet reshuffle is expected to ensure fresh insight into key developmental issues, particularly in the areas that have always been considered neglected.
In his post on social media, CM Sarma said that best wishes go out to the new ministers and further asserted that the government would strive to ensure that all the regions are represented adequately.
The cabinet reshuffle marks a significant step towards addressing the longstanding issue of Barak Valley's marginalization in the state's governance. Through these appointments, the Chief Minister intends to bring in more balance in the cabinet representation by taking care of the interests and aspirations of every region in Assam.
This apparent reshuffling of Assam's cabinet seems to be a strategic action on the part of Chief Minister Sarma meant to strengthen his administration wherein the ministers will focus more on urgent regional and developmental issues. As is evident, Assam continues to pursue inclusive growth for its urban and rural populations.
