Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal Visits Sri Sri Sankardev Than at Barpeta

Barpeta: “Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev produced his invaluable creations like kirtan, Dasam, borgeet, bhaona, bhatima, ankia naat etc at this very place and made a stellar contribution to the development of Assamese culture and literature.

We must strive to preserve the valuable properties like sasipat scriptures and other resources of the Gurujona with modern scientific technologies to inspire the young generation with his ideas for strengthening greater Assamese identity,” said Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday while speaking at a discussion programme on the need for preservation of Xatra resources while visiting the Sri Sri Sankardev Than at Patbausi Xatra at Barpeta.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also announced Rs 50 lakh for setting up a modern museum for the preservation of sasipat scriptures and other resources of the Xatra. Saying that the State government is embarking on a journey to make Assam one of the best states in the country following the ideals of Gurujona, Sonowal stated that the government is committed to safeguarding the interest of all sections of the society and no one should doubt its intentions.

The State government is working towards freeing the Xatra lands from encroachment and preserve the Xatras as seats of culture and 130 bighas of land of Batadrawa Xatra have already been freed from encroachment till now, the Chief Minister said.
