Assam CM Seeks Startup Ties with South Korea’s Pangyo Techno Valley

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Pangyo Techno Valley in South Korea to explore collaborations and boost Assam’s startup ecosystem as India ranks third globally.

GUWAHATI: In a bid to strengthen the startup ecosystem of Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Pangyo Techno Valley, commonly known as Silicon Valley of South Korea. During his visit, CM Sarma scouted for possible linkages in the areas of ICT, BT, and Cultural industries.

With a vibrant and dynamic ecosystem, Pangyo Techno Valley is a center for innovation and technology development. Highlighting the need for international collaboration, Dr Sarma pointed out the importance of the strengthening of connections between Assam and Pangyo Valley. Both teams are expected to work very closely in offices starting next month with an aim of fostering startups in Assam and creating a win-win situation for all.

Meanwhile, India emerged as the third largest startup ecosystem in the world, with over 1.59 lakh startups set up by the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) as of January 15, 2025.

The industry that had contributed the most to job creation was IT services, which had created 204,000 jobs; followed by healthcare and life sciences, which had created 147,000 jobs; and professional and business services, which had created about 94,000 jobs.
