Chachar: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday chaired a meeting with senior officials of various government departments and took stock of flood relief and rescue operations in the Cachar district.

Though the flood situation has improved slightly in Central and Lower Assam districts, the situation in the Barak Valley continues to worry the State Government as it is critical.

Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Sarma said, ''Chaired a meeting with senior officials of various govt depts at DC office, Cachar to take stock of flood relief & rescue operations. Directed district administration to prepare ward-wise micro-level plan with the help of local people and public representatives for Silchar town.''

He further said the state government is firm with the people of Barak Valley.

''Packets containing food items, water bottles & essentials airdropped today at flood-hit Silchar by helicopters. We plan to continue such air-droppings for our stranded people in the days ahead, apart from the regular relief. Our Govt is firmly with the people of Barak Valley,'' he said in another tweet.

He also made an aerial survey of flood-hit Silchar along with MP Dr Rajeep Roy and other government officials.

Afterwards, I will visit the affected areas & interact with people, besides reviewing the situation with Cachar district administration for expediting our relief efforts,'' he tweeted.

The flood has affected 54,57,601 people in 4,941 villages under 112 revenue circles in 32 districts in the state. The state has 845 relief camps giving shelter to 2,71,125 inmates.

The Brahmaputra, the Kopili, and the Disang rivers are flowing above the danger levels in various places.
