Assam: CM To Inaugurate Fancy Bazaar Foot Bridge On His Birthday

GUWAHATI : The under construction foot-over bridge (FOB) in Guwahati Fancy Bazar's Mahatma Gandhi road will be finally inaugurated on the 1st of February, 2023.

Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma will initiate the process on the mentioned date, which ironically is also his birthday date. The prime motive behind the foot bridge is to minimise the traffic congestion and haphazardness in that area.

While one point of the bridge ends in front of the PWD campus, the other ends at the Brahmaputra Riverside. However, complete construction of the FOB is yet to be established.

As per sources, the total cost of construction is approximately Rs 16.60 crore and the construction will be done in not more than a year. The foot bridge construction is carried on by Anil Das, who earlier established the Supermarket Flyover.

The total length of the FOB is 73.93 metres, the length of the deck from the mid point towards the riverside is 11 metres. The length towards extending towards the PWD campus is 9.65 metres and the length of the deck along the median is 53.28 metres.

One perk of the foot bridge is that it will have both elevators and staircases on both the sides for people with impairment. The FOB will also have CCTV cameras for security and protection.

Other relevant features of the foot bridge includes diesel generating set for power supply, special granite cladding for elevator shaft, aluminium composite panelled ceiling, special roofing and so on.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 2023 inaugurated the Jorpukhuri park in Guwahati's Uzan Bazar area. The inauguration was done on 13th of January, Friday.

The task of establishment of the park was undertaken by the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). The total cost of construction was Rs 3.23 crore. The CM advised the concerned administration to keep a watch and restrict the area from turning into a commercial space.

The prime motive behind the establishment of the park is to construct a tourist spot in the area. Along with the newly created park, the religious Jorpukhuri of Uggratara Devalaya has also been groomed properly. Assam is on an accelerated journey of infrastructure development as well as boosting up the tourism sector of the state.
