GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will officially launch the BJP’s election campaign for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections on August 2, starting with rallies in Udalguri district, according to an ANI report.
This initiative marks the beginning of a broad campaign strategy ahead of the polls expected in September 2025, with Sarma addressing rallies across the 40 council constituencies of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Accompanying him will be prominent leaders including Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia, as part of a coordinated BJP effort.
According to Kishore Upadhyay, BJP’s Assam spokesperson, “BJP will contest the BTC polls independently, fielding candidates in 38 of the 40 seats, while leaving two seats as a gesture of respect to Bodo leaders such as Pramod Boro and Hagrama Mohilary.
In recent days, the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) has called for regional party unity, urging BPF and UPPL to join forces in the elections amid concerns about the growing dominance of national parties in the region.
The Assam State Election Commission recently released the draft voter list, revealing approximately 26.69 lakh electors across the 40 BTC constituencies, with 3,277 polling stations mapped out ahead of the expected September polls.
