BOKO: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed a massive Vijay Sankalp rally on Wednesday organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at Rongjuli Sarapara field under the Dudhnoi Assembly Constituency in Goalpara district on Wednesday.

The rally, held as part of BJP’s campaign for the 2025 Goalpara district Panchayat polls, witnessed the Chief Minister sounding the poll bugle and unveiling a slew of welfare measures. Several senior leaders, including Tankeswar Rabha, Chief Executive Member of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, Bijuli Kalita Medhi, Member of Parliament from Guwahati, and BJP State Secretary Tinamoni Daimari, among others, joined the rally.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sarma announced that starting October 1, all ration card holders in Assam will receive pulses, cooking oil, and salt at subsidized rates. He further declared that domestic cooking gas cylinders would be made available at Rs 650, while Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries would be able to access cylinders at a heavily reduced price of Rs 250.

Showcasing his government’s achievements, the Chief Minister stated that 1.5 lakh youths have secured government jobs in the last four and a half years alone. He also introduced new student incentives, pledging Rs 300 for each student who passes the matriculation examination and Rs 2,500 for degree holders until they find employment.

In a scathing attack on the opposition Congress, Sarma urged minority communities to note that no communal riots have occurred under BJP’s governance, contrasting it with what he described as Congress’s history of communal disturbances. He accused the Congress party of limiting its policies to distributing items like ‘lungis’, ‘dhotis’, mosquito nets, blankets, and threads, without focusing on genuine developmental programs.

Sharpening his attack, Sarma called upon Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi to publicly clarify his alleged remarks about visiting Pakistan. Folding his hands, he urged Gogoi to respect the sentiments of Assam’s people and uphold the legacy of his father, the Late former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. The Chief Minister also took a swipe at Akhil Gogoi, asserting that criticism from such quarters would only serve to bolster the BJP’s vote share.

Significantly, the rally also marked the launch of BJP’s campaign for the second phase of Panchayat polls, slated for May 7. Sarma underscored BJP’s growing strength in the district, noting that out of 16 Zila Parishad seats in Goalpara, candidates in two constituencies, 11 No. Dwarka and 10 No. Agia-Badahapara, have already been declared winners unopposed.
