GUWAHATI: In a significant operation today, the Chief Minister's Vigilance Team conducted raids on the residences of ACS officers Tanbir Yusuf Ahmed and his brother Masum Ahmed. The raids commenced at around 5:00 AM at House No. 20 on Jyoti Prasad Agarwala Road, Byelane No. 5, located in Bhetapara, Guwahati.

The probe pertains to accusations of land scam activities involving the two officers. The Special Monitoring Cell of the Chief Minister's Department is conducting the inquiry into allegations of illegal accumulation of wealth. In the course of the investigation, authorities have filed cases 8/2025 and 9/2025 against the suspects.

Tanbir Yusuf Ahmed, the former Revenue Circle Officer in Bajali, was transferred from his post in Dalgaon, Darrang district, in December 2024. It is reported that he protested against this transfer, probably because of the gains he made from his relationship with the local MLA and his involvement in other illegal activities. The allegations are that he amassed illegal wealth during his time in office.

In a related development, the CM Vigilance Team also raided the residence of Reetimoni Das, another ACS officer and close associate of Tanbir Yusuf Ahmed, in Japorigog, Guwahati. Although Das was not present during the raid, she was taken by the team for questioning, and a search of her rented house in Mangaldai is currently underway. Further details regarding the investigation are expected as authorities continue their work.
