KOKRAJHAR: The Food Safety Department, Kokrajhar under the Commissionerate of Food Safety-Assam, conducted an awareness camp for safe use of pesticides especially among the small tea growers of Kokrajhar district as a part of a state-wise awareness drive at the conference hall of Jt Director of Health Services, Kokrajhar. The programme was graced by Anjali Basumatary, ADO (P) and Subhankar Roy, MME, Kokrajhar from Agriculture Department, along with Jayanti Basumatary, Extension Officer (EO), DICC.
The inaugural session was inaugurated by Bilifang Brahma, Designated Officer, Food Safety, HQ, Kokrajhar, and Jaiklong Narzary, FSO, Gossaigaon. The awareness camp covered various aspects of handling pesticides and their adverse effects on health. In the camp, various plant protection codes for Indian tea industries were also discussed along with various schemes for setting up of small tea industries. The awareness camp was attended by numerous small tea growers from the district and they found the programme very informative.
