Guwahati: Assam finance and health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today announced that the state's health department has completed 20 lakh COVID-19 tests.

At the same time, the per million COVID-19 test figure has also continued to clamber upwards and on Tuesday it reached 58,356.

"ASSAM COMPLETES 20 LAKH #COVID TESTS! Our PER MILLION TEST is now 58356," Sarma wrote in a tweet, sharing the development.

The health minister also shared a graph showing the government's roadmap towards achieving this incredible number.

The number of tests in the state has risen exponentially amid the Government's push to ramp up testings in order to isolate the virus.

Thus, while the first 1 lakh tests took 114 days to complete, the figure is now being reached within 3 days amid the ramped up testings.

Now, as many as 17 laboratories have been made operational across the state wherein these tests are being conducted.

From setting up the first laboratory on February 7, the state has achieved the remarkable feat of conducting 20 lakh tests with 17 laboratories today.

So far, Assam has recorded 92,619 cases with 73,090 recoveries. Currently, there are 19,274 active COVID-19 cases in the Northeast Indian state.
